In The Far Coast we met the Adventures of Dangerous Jack, a page-ripping bodice-turner of very little literary standing. It is a fiction within a fiction. An adventure story familiar to the characters in the book. And, as described, very much in the tradition of RIpping Yarns and similar spoofs.
As such it presents a temptation. It would be an interesting project. But it is, at the end of the day, an exercise in bad storytelling. A breeding ground for bad habits, of which I already have too many.
I toyed with the idea of including a Dangerous Jack adventure as an appendix to each of the Far Coast books. But I am slightly afraid of meeting Dangerous Jack on the page.
At present he remains an oblique reference. I'd be interested in opinions once The Far Coast reaches publication. It is currently delayed by my favourite proof-reader. But all will be revealed soon.
